Mobile game fans have been scratching their heads amid fabricated online rumors that Clash of Clans may be shutting down in 2022.


The war game available in the app store has been going on since 2012.


So is Clash of Clans closing and where are the rumors coming from? We unpack everything you need to know.


CLASH OF CLANS CLOSING rumours ONLINE SURFACE

The free game app available in smartphone app stores is a popular "strategy war" game that has been around for about ten years. But now, unfounded rumors have surfaced that the Clash of Clans mobile app may be shut down on social media, specifically TikTok.

One person tweeted: "Did anyone else see and check out TikTok?"


Another wrote: "Is it really closing?"

Rest assured, it seems that the closure claims are just rumours.


The game is still on the app store and Clash of Clans social media accounts have not given any indication that the game will be removed in 2022. Similarly, game development company Supercell did not mention a shutdown. .


However, Clash of Clans has issued a statement telling its fans that the game will no longer support operating systems older than iOS 11 or Android 5.0.


Clash of Clans shared: "Due to technical reasons beyond our control, in the next update of Clash of Clans (later this year) we will unfortunately have to end support for all Apple and Android devices running on older versions of operating systems, iOS 11 and iOS 11 respectively. Before Android 5.0.


“If your device is currently running on an operating system prior to iOS 11 or Android 5.0, you will no longer be able to play Clash of Clans unless you update to a later version of iOS/Android. Please update to iOS version 11 / Android 5.0 (or higher) as soon as possible."


Leave the game fans alone, Clash of Clans doesn't seem to be going anywhere.


WERE THE CLOSING WORDS OUT BEFORE?

Yep, this isn't the first time fans have feared the closure of Clash of Clans.


According to Game Zone reports, in 2016, developer Supercell's staff member Anoushka had to refute rumors that the server had been shut down.


Similarly, in 2020, Supercell was reportedly shutting down puzzle game Hay Day Pop, with players wondering if Clash of Clans would also go to bed.


But as we know, Clash of Clans has remained safe on the app store.
